Remoulded of the Void · “Keeper of the Underway”

Vie'Kamee

Gate-warden, nine feet, "a horrifying abomination furry and feathered and grossly lean, crowned with bloodied antlers made of flesh," naked and rotted to its core, the husked skull open to the air, teeth mishapen in every way, too-many-jointed, with an inward-thorned mouth and inner bones that cracked as it contorted. It spat blighted mucus that dissolves Whitestone into mush, and it healed while it was being watched.

It held absolute authority over its assigned gate, and it was a cannibal, which in this class means it advanced.

Society

The Underway is the office of the roads between dens, which in a class that cannot cross open country is the office that holds the class together. The hundred dens are joined by ancient Alverian tunnels because a Remoulded under an open sky loses mass by the hour and mass is rank, so the tunnels are not a convenience: they are the circulatory system of the court.

Vie'Kamee held its gate the way a toll-keeper holds a bridge, by being the only route and by being worse than the detour.

Body

The antlers were made of flesh because it remembered antlers, and they were as much antler as the skull was skull, which is to say they were the same substance persuaded into a silhouette. The wrong joint count is the ordinary condition of a thing with no skeleton, and the cracking inside it as it contorted was a material at its limit rather than bone. The rot was not decay but the filter working on it, and it never finishes.

Whitestone, which holds so much else in this world, did not hold it. It dissolved the wall.

Regard

It was killed by Khar'shkahur, who greeted it as cousin first. Its death opened the office and the office stands empty, because filling it means standing at a gate that Khar'shkahur knows the way to.

Nothing else in the Coven's arrangements has been changed to cover the vacancy, which is either confidence or an argument the Keepers have not settled.
