Remoulded of the Void · “Messenger of the Thirteenth Estate”

Brigi'Tekth

A mass of horrifying tentacles beneath a golden cloak of ancient fabrics that seems translucent and is not. The tentacles carry him across the floor and peek out from beneath the robes as he moves. None know his true form, and none have seen more of it than the hem allows.

He carries summons, he carries terms, and he carries nothing back that he was not sent to carry.

Society

The summons of the Thirteenth Estate is delivered by Brigi'Tekth and by nobody else, which is why a Messenger outranks Keepers in practice while sitting below them in form. A den that receives the Messenger sends its Keeper or sends its apology. There has been one apology in all remembered history and no den by that name any longer.

He has never once answered a question. In a court whose entire admittance rite is an exchange of information, and whose members collect memory because memory is the only provenance they can acquire without living it, that is a deliberate and expensive silence.

Country

His title has confused every mortal scholar who has heard it, because the Imperial Diet has six estates and thirteen Electors, and no charter anywhere names a thirteenth estate. That is the point of the name. The Thirteenth Estate is the seat that was never granted and never asked for, and the Messenger is its only visible officer.

The Estate itself has no hall and convenes wherever the Queen is, so what he actually carries is a place as well as a message. No mortal polity has ever confirmed that the thing he speaks for exists.
