Lathonian · “Snow Cat”

Lathse

The snow leopard strain and the high country. "White, and hanging furry pelt, with black different shaped spots. Their shaggy furs hide their sleek muscular bodies, blue-white eyes." Six feet, and lighter than the coat suggests.

They are at home above the tree line where even the Lathasi will not winter, and they are the only Lathonians who deal with the Gidan on regular terms, since both hold passes and both sell what crosses them.

Body

A long hanging white pelt spotted black in shapes that never repeat, and under it a sleek muscular body that the coat hides completely until it moves. Blue-white eyes. About six feet. The coat is the strain: it is why they can sit still on a col in weather that would empty a Lathasi hold, and it is why nobody ever sees one until it stands up.

Country

The high country above the tree line, on pass posts and in high holds, where the air is thin and the ground is bare rock and old snow. They hold passes the way the Gidan hold passes, from the other side of the tree line, and the two peoples bargain as equals, which neither of them does with anyone else.

Faith

Their Telling is done alone, into the wind, once a year, and a Lathse cannot be persuaded to explain this to anyone. They are quiet to the point of rudeness by the standards of their own species, which is a species that assesses the order of a room before anybody speaks and then expects the order to be acknowledged out loud.
