Laathica
The serval strain, and built entirely wrong for the species: very long in the leg, very short in the body, small-headed, with enormous upright ears and a tawny coat spotted black on the flank and barred at the neck. They stand higher than a Lanthen and weigh half as much.
They never held a prison. The Laathica were the outer guard of the Alverian grassland complexes, the ones who worked the perimeter and ran down escapes, and when the empire fell they had nothing to keep and simply stayed where they were.
Body
Five and a half to six and a half feet of mostly leg, with the body short behind it and the head small on top. The ears are the working organ. They hunt the tall grass by hearing, leaping vertically onto what they have heard, and a Laathica hunting party moving through a grassland shows as a series of bodies appearing above the seed heads and vanishing again.
Country
Theirs is the dry country between the sand and the jungle, which no other strain holds. They live in scattered grass-holds of thirty or forty, they herd rather than farm, and they are the only strain that regularly hires out to other peoples as trackers without any sense that this is beneath them.
Faith
Their Kept Law has no keys in it at all. A Laathica Keyholder carries a length of grass rope, and their reading is that the term is the distance and the sin is to stop walking. It is the only version of the doctrine in the species that does not require somebody to be locked up for it to mean anything, which is the reason the wardens will not concede that it is the doctrine.
