Abominations of Chaos

Meshellun

Deer-sized, quick, and blind on its right, which is the only reliable way to survive meeting one. Four eyes cluster on the left of a head that has no features at all on the right, and Meshellun turns constantly, in a rhythm, to keep the world in view.

It is irritable, and quite beautiful, and its hide is worth nothing and its bone is worth a month's wage.

Body

The lopsided senses are what make this class strange to fight and pitiable to watch, and Meshellun is the plainest case of it in the world. Depth is a guess for any Abomination whose eyes sit at different heights, and this one has no right side to judge with at all. It compensates by turning, and the turning is the whole animal: a rhythm that keeps a half-world in front of a head that only has half a face.

Regard

The rhythm is the same every time and can be counted. Trappers count it. The counting is the trade: nine beats, and on the ninth the blind side faces the hide, and everything a ravine hunter earns in a season depends on being able to keep a number in his head while something beautiful decides whether to kill him.

This is the ravine trade in one animal, and it is why the trade pays what it pays.

Harvest

Asymmetric bone takes an astral rune in a way ordinary bone does not, the rune sits crooked and holds harder, and the grade is set by how wrong the bone is. Meshellun's is wrong enough to be worth a month's wage off a deer-sized animal, which is why it is hunted at all. The hide is worth nothing and is left.
