The Butcher of Jon-Lithul
Attached to the ancient Aezithian horde beneath the mines. Its ribs are hinged on the left and unhinged on the right, and it can open its own chest, which it does when it eats.
It is ancient, and has been in the deep workings since before the Jondaran descendants took the mines. It has never come up.
Body
What is inside is doubled and crowded and has to be let out to work, which is the actual reason for the opening and the reason it cannot be closed for long. This is the internal half of the class rule, in a body large enough and old enough to have lived with it: organs doubled on one side and absent on the other, an arrangement that kills most of the class within a few years, and one creature that has built a hinge into its own ribs and gone on.
Country
The mine-holders' arrangement with it is the reason no seam below the fourth level is ever worked. Above the fourth the Jon-Lithul mines are good rock, timbered, lit and working normally. Below it there are seams that everybody knows about and nobody touches, and the gallery mouth going down is walled at the top.
The adjacency is no coincidence. An ancient Aezithian horde lies beneath Jon-Lithul, in the mines the descendants of the ridden hold, and the Butcher is in the deep workings under all of it.
Regard
Everything anyone knows of it comes from what has gone down. It has never come up, it has been there longer than the present holders have held the place, and the whole of its reputation is assembled out of the accounts of people who did not come back and the inference of the ones who walled the gallery.
