The Sump Mother
Forty feet of it, immobile, in a flooded pit at the bottom of a ravine, with every organ and limb on its left side occurring twice and none on the right occurring at all.
It cannot move and has not needed to since the water rose, and the water is the whole reason it has lived so long: a frame that lopsided cannot stand up, and in a flooded pit it does not have to.
Body
The internal asymmetry of this class is where most of its members die. Organs come doubled on one side and absent on the other, and most such arrangements fail within a few years, which is why the class produces enormous numbers of young and so few adults. The Sump Mother is the extreme case of the arrangement and a curiosity rather than an exception. She simply drew a doubling that happened to work, and then drew a pit full of water that meant she never had to carry it.
Life
She breeds by producing free-swimming young that leave the sump and never return, and the young are all different, and a great many of the region's monsters can be traced back to her by anyone with the patience to trace. This is the general rule of the class made visible in one place: there is no line, there is a family, and the family is a crowd of strangers who have gone out into the country and become its wildlife.
Tongue
She is intelligent enough to speak and does so rarely, in Common, learned from things that fell in. That is the ordinary route by which an Abomination comes to Common: from captives, or from whatever arrives. Such a speaker is precise and slow, having had nobody to be casual with.
