Nu'umanwa
The Nu'umanwa are found primarily within the eastern portion of Nu, and the rays set them under a sky that drowns the country for a season and bakes it for the next. They are taller than the rest of the species, six to seven feet, with yellow-white skin, black-orange hair, dark eyes and sparse body hair, and bodies attuned to build muscle easily.
They hold incredible strength, extreme agility, and the ability to speak to the trees, which is the Irugaine half of the splice surfacing more strongly here than anywhere else in the species. It is also the quiet reproach in the Nu'uman record: the strain that can talk to a forest belongs to the people who took the Irugaine forests.
Body
Hair black-orange, eyes dark, body hair sparse, bodies attuned to build muscle easily, and skin yellow-white. Their eyes are the climate's signature: "their thinner slit eyes evolved due to the immense rain storms, beating down on their strain of the species like shards of glass, thus their eyelids protect most of their eyes." The lung is broad and shallow and works well in saturated air where another strain labours, and the skin sheds water rather than holding it, so a River Sun Child does not rot in the wet season and an incomer does. They live seventy to one hundred and twenty years.
Country
Their cradle is the eastern monsoon country: hot, drowned in rain for a season and baked for the next, terraced river valleys, flooded fields and forests that talk back.
Tongue
The River Sun Children give the family name first and the given name second, and the family name is a word for a place on a river. It is the one register that reverses the order the surface houses use, and a River Sun Child who marries into a house has the order turned around for him in the marriage contract.
