Gidaesh
The shepherd caste and the smallest, five and a half feet, lighter in the bone, mild-faced, with short simple horns that barely need filing and often are not.
They pass for satyrs effortlessly and they are the ones who go down to the market towns, sell the cut horn, buy the salt and the iron, and come back with the news.
Body
Five and a half feet and light in the bone, mild in the face, with short simple horns that barely reach the point where filing matters. The domestic goat expression of the one genome, and the only caste the makers' design actually worked on, since a Gidaesh at a fire is a satyr until it opens its mouth to eat.
They also tolerate low ground better than any other caste, which in a people killed by two seasons at sea level is the difference between a strain and a strategy.
Country
Half the Gidaesh in the world do not live on a pass at all. They live in the valley villages under their neighbours' noses, keep a few animals, are known as slightly odd satyrs, and are the reason a hold three days' walk uphill knows the price of grain.
Society
They are the trade arm and the ears of the people, and they carry the second income: cut horn sold by weight at market. The other castes call them soft and rely on them entirely, which is the standing arrangement and is not argued about, in a people that argues about everything.
