Bogaisha
Small, blue-black, and toxic to the touch. The toxin is taken up from what they eat and concentrated in the skin, so a Bogaisha raised on town food is harmless and one that has kept to the canopy beds is not, and no outsider can tell which is which.
The makers hatched them in the canopy waters as reagent-stock and milked their skins in vivariums. The Bogaisha have not let an outsider touch them since. They live in hermitages high in the swamp trees above the towns, and they are the mystics of the Pool-Reading, since the dust takes them furthest.
Body
Blue-black and slick, the smallest of the castes, with the people's high thin dome above the frog mouth. The skin toxin is dietary: what they eat makes them poisonous or does not, and the change is invisible from outside. They breathe through that skin like all Bogish and it must stay wet, which is why the hermitages are built where the trees hold water in their axils rather than on the ground.
Faith
They are the mystics of their people's one great rite. At the Pool-Reading, when dust bought from the Papillian groves is cast on the water at the good moon full, the dust takes a Bogaisha further than it takes anyone else, and what a Bogaisha sees is not always sung. They keep the Constellation Court under Ollua the Green Moon like the rest of their people, and they fear the Listener in the Reeds and do not name him.
Society
The one thing they will hand down is the salve against Boig Rot, the flesh-eating venom refined from the Boigish, and they hand it down to no one who has not asked three times. They live apart, above the town rather than in it, and a Bogaisha who comes down to a party comes down for the party.
